Grease!

Last week saw four magical evenings of performance as senior students performed a stunning rendition of Grease.

Transported back to 1950s high school America, audiences heard musical numbers by Sandy, Danny, the Pink Ladies and the T-Birds which left their feet tapping along to the nostalgic hits such as Greased Lightnin’ and Summer Nights.

The story follows a group of teenagers as they deal with issues of peer pressure, politics, values, morals and love.

As always, Westholme pulled out all the stops to put on a Broadway-worthy show in the Croston Theatre, with two incredible casts covering the four performances.

Principal Paul Taylor said: “After nearly 30 years in education, it is quite rare that I’m totally stunned by what I see in school. However ‘stunned’ is exactly what I was last Thursday and Friday evening!

“It is sometimes easy to forget that we are not a specialist performing arts school nor, as one parent said to me, sat in a West End theatre. In fact, our students are studying for their A Levels and GCSEs and still produce the highest level of school musical theatre that I have ever seen.”

Ben Holt, Musical Director, said he had “the best seat in the house”, directing from behind his piano.

He added: “I would like to thank all members of the case, the crew and the band for all their time and effort throughout all rehearsals.”

This year Westholme School was once again successful in the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) North West District 3 nominations across 12 categories. NODA celebrates, connects and supports theatre groups across the UK.

Mr Holt won best Musical Director of a Youth Production for Les Miserables and will now go through to the regional awards, to be held in Manchester in May.

Congratulations to all of the cast for their fantastic and committed performances. Thank you to everyone who came to watch to make it such a memorable few evenings on the Westholme stage!
