Remembrance Assembly

On Monday morning, we held a special Remembrance Day assembly, led by Head of History, Mr Fuller and members of our INSPIRED Sixth Form. Mr Fuller reminded us why we celebrate Remembrance Day and why it is such as special day in the history of the British Isles and the world in general. Students read poems on stage in front of their fellow students and members of staff. Mr Fuller summarised some of the key moments in the end of the Second World War such as D-Day, and the reasons behind the name of the event. He then highlighted some of the heroes who were responsible for making sure that D-Day was a success for the Allied forces, and what they had done in order to achieve a favourable outcome on the day.

The Last Post was played by INSPIRED Sixth Former Darcie, and a minute’s silence was observed by everyone in the Theatre. Mr Lyle, formerly of the Royal Engineers, was present to raise the colours on stage during the last post. At the end of the assembly, a wreath was laid out by our Head Girl and Head Boy, Charlotte and Enrikas, alongside Mr Lyle, Mr Fuller, and Principal, Mr Taylor. Over in Prep, students had created a special ‘Poppy’ memorial on the wall in commemoration, and they also helped to show their support for the day by presenting a wreath in front of the flagpole. Thank you to everyone involved for making it such a special occasion.
