Thoughts for the Summer Term, from new Head Girl, Elley, and new Head Boy, Zak.
After a restful Easter break, it is so exciting to be back for the Summer Term at Westholme. Already, students have dived right back into co-curricular activities alongside their academic subjects. Notably, the Year 13 A Level Drama students performed for an examiner on Wednesday, marking the start of exam season. As well as this, Years 7-13 were welcomed back with an assembly led by Mr Taylor. We were lucky enough to enjoy some sunny weather, which meant that students enjoyed taking part in athletics on the field as well as rounders and football.
However, before we think about this week, let’s return to the holidays where a group of Classics’ students embarked on a once in a lifetime trip to Italy. Led by Mr Oracz, Miss Taylor and Miss Burton, the week long tour included sights such as Pompei, the Bay of Naples and Rome. Throughout the trip, students embraced the Italian culture sampling lots of local cuisine and exploring the impressive landmarks.
On Wednesday, Mr Taylor celebrated the successes of students across Westholme from those who took part in the Pi recital, to the A level chemists that entered the UK Chemistry Olympiad Competition as well as the Year 12 students who have taken on the roles of Subject Captain, House Captain and the Student Executive. Furthermore, he discussed the endless opportunities we have despite our young age.
On Wednesday evening, in addition to performing for an examiner earlier that day, the Upper Sixth drama A Level students had the opportunity to present their hard work to peers and parents during an intimate evening showcase. Working in the styles of their chosen practitioners, the students delivered both scripted and devised pieces, each one a testament to the exceptional talent within Westholme.
Praise was attributed to both the students and our Head of Drama, Miss Roberts, for the powerful performances – some of which were at times deeply harrowing and uncomfortable in the most incredible way. The emotional intensity and authenticity of the performances made them difficult to watch, highlighting their realism and dramatic weight. As well as the mature performances given, there were a range of performances that were ‘comedic gold’, showing the true versatility of the performers at Westholme. Congratulations are in order for the completion of – what was for many – their first A Level exam!
Looking ahead to next week, preparations continue for the Year 11 and Year 13 stand down – with revision and clinics in full swing in lunch times and after school sessions.
It’s an honour to sign off this week’s Westholme weekly as your new Head Boy and Head Girl for 2025-2026. We cannot wait for the exciting opportunities that the next year will bring. From us, we want to wish the Westholme family a lovely weekend in what hopes to be some lovely weather.
From,
Elley and Zak.
