Year 12 Sociology students visit the Pankhurst Centre in Manchester
Year 12 Sociology students were recently taken to the home of modern British feminism – Emmeline Pankhurst’s home in Manchester. Emmeline and her two children Christabel and Sylvia lived in what is now the Pankhurst Museum between 1897 and 1907.
Students were fascinated by the history of these women, and how they came about to start the Suffragette movement, and the challenges they faced.
After walking around the home, they were able to talk with the volunteers who run the museum (and dressing up for a few pictures), students sat in the sunshine in the home’s garden, where Emmeline would once upon a time have played with her children, and discussed Feminism, particularly how the Suffragette movement has helped shape the world we know today.
