Key Stage 3 – Art

The modern economy values people who can generate original ideas, adapt to new challenges and innovate within real-world constraints. Creative and technical subjects encourage divergent and imaginative thinking, experimentation and risk-taking, and the ability to respond creatively to unfamiliar problems. In a world where many routine tasks are automated, creative intelligence is a defining human skill. 

Westholme’s curriculum is designed to educate pupils who are:

Art is central to these aims because it develops the creative, visual and interpretive skills that are increasingly vital in modern society. 

The 21st century values originality, imagination and the ability to generate new ideas. Art encourages pupils to think divergently and take intellectual risks, develops originality, experimentation and problem-solving, and teaches pupils how ideas are developed, refined and communicated visually.
