The BTEC Extended Certificate in Performing Arts helps you develop a range of practical, creative and professional skills that are valuable both within the performing arts industry and in many other careers.
The course builds confidence and communication skills. Through rehearsals, performances, and group work, you learn how to express ideas clearly, speak in front of an audience, and collaborate effectively with others. These skills are highly valued in careers such as teaching, media, business, and public speaking.
This course also strengthens teamwork, discipline and time management. Producing performances requires commitment, organisation and the ability to work under pressure skills that are essential in many professions.
The BTEC qualification is recognised by universities and employers. It can support progression to higher education courses in performing arts, drama, theatre studies, musical theatre or media, and can also lead to careers such as actor, performer, director, theatre technician, teacher or arts administrator.

Performing Arts is an exciting and inspiring course that offers a highly practical approach to learning. It provides students with the opportunity to work as performers and/or designers, developing both creative and technical skills. Over the two-year course, students will study five units and gain hands-on experience across a range of performance disciplines.
Assessment takes place in a variety of ways, including focused practical projects, audition-style scenarios, professional workshops and live performances, allowing students to build confidence, creativity and collaboration skills while experiencing the world of performing Arts.

This is an engaging practical course aimed at those with an interest or who want to pursue a career in Performing Arts.
You will study 5 UNITS (across two years)
The units are coursework based. There is no sit-down examination to this course, but units are assessed internally and externally.

The possibilities are endless. Production will enable you to demonstrate many skills which employers, colleges and universities will be looking for. Some students go on to study Production in some of the most recognised Drama colleges and conservatoires in Britain such as RADA.
Many also choose to study Production as degree courses in universities. A number of students forge successful careers as Actors, Directors, Lighting or Sound Designers, Costume, Hair and Make-Up Designers or Stage Designers. There are many other career paths within the industry including Stage Managers, Press and PR Managers and Producers.
Others go on to various universities (including Russell Group) to read a diverse range of subjects and work within an extremely broad range of careers including teaching, law, publishing, politics, translation, science, occupational therapy, and journalism.
Grade 5 or above in GCSE English, Maths and/or Drama.

Westholme has a very strong drama tradition. There is one major production each year, held in the Croston Theatre. The Drama Showcase includes pupils from all year groups and the summer production includes pupils from Years 9 – 13. We organise regular theatre visits to major theatres in the North and our students are encouraged to experience a broad range of theatrical forms for personal enrichment and to support their curriculum studies. There are educational trips to the Royal Exchange and the Lowry in Manchester, the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds, The Dukes Lancaster and the Octagon Theatre, Bolton.
