A group of Year 11, 12 and 13 students from Westholme enjoyed an inspiring and creative visit to the University of Salford, exploring the exciting worlds of Fashion Image Making and Styling, and Fashion Business and Promotion.
The visit took place in the University’s impressive New Adelphi Building, home to Salford’s School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology. Students took part in hands-on taster workshops designed to give them a real insight into studying fashion and creative media at university level.
During the Fashion Image Making and Styling session, students were challenged to create their own magazine covers, using a range of magazines and photography tools to explore concepts such as composition, visual storytelling and branding. They also took part in a photography brief, working collaboratively to develop and capture their creative ideas.
The lecturers were highly impressed by the creativity, confidence and curiosity shown by our students, commenting on the quality of their ideas and their willingness to experiment with new techniques.
The Fashion Business and Promotion session gave students a broader understanding of how design, marketing and communication come together in the global fashion industry. From editorial concepts to brand identity, they gained valuable insights into potential future pathways within the creative sector.
By the end of the day, our students left feeling inspired and motivated — many already considering how their skills and passions could translate into future study and career opportunities.
The visit was a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience university life first-hand, connect with industry experts and explore the creative possibilities that await them beyond Westholme.
