Key Stage 3 – Biology

Westholme’s curriculum develops students who are scientifically literate and intellectually curious, ethical, reflective and responsible citizens, prepared for rapid scientific and technological change and capable of informed decision-making in a complex world.

Biology sits at the heart of these ambitions because it connects scientific understanding directly to human life, health and the natural world.

In the 21st century, citizens must engage with biological issues such as:

  • Public health and pandemics
  • Genetics, biotechnology and AI-driven medicine
  • Climate change, biodiversity and sustainability

Biology teaches students to understand scientific evidence and methodology, distinguish reliable research from misinformation, and apply scientific reasoning to real-world problems.

Biology supports Westholme’s curriculum by:

  • Developing critical, evidence-based thinking
  • Preparing students to engage confidently with contemporary scientific debates
  • Ensuring students are informed participants in society, not passive consumers of information
