Key Stage 3 – Ethics, Philosophy and Religion

Westholme’s 21st Century curriculum is characterised by intellectual curiosity and academic rigour, global awareness and outward-looking education, ethical leadership and character formation, critical thinking, debate and communication, and preparation for a complex, uncertain future rather than narrow exam performance. From that standpoint, Humanities disciplines are not optional extras; they are core enablers.

Modern societies face ethical questions that cannot be answered by technical knowledge alone: artificial intelligence and human agency, medical ethics and biotechnology, freedom of speech, belief and identity, and justice, responsibility and truth. 

EPR develops moral reasoning and ethical literacy, respectful dialogue across differences, and self-knowledge and reflection.  

ERP is not about telling students what to think, but teaching them: 

  • How to think well about moral questions 
  • How to disagree thoughtfully and respectfully 
  • How belief systems shape individuals, cultures and societies
