Key Stage 3 – Geography

Westholme’s 21st Century curriculum is characterised by intellectual curiosity and academic rigour, global awareness and outward-looking education, ethical leadership and character formation, critical thinking, debate and communication, and preparation for a complex, uncertain future rather than narrow exam performance. From that standpoint, Humanities disciplines are not optional extras; they are core enablers. 

Geography is arguably one of the most future-facing subjects in the curriculum. It develops global awareness, environmental literacy and understanding of human–environment interaction. 

Key 21st century challenges such as climate change, migration, inequality, resource management and geopolitics are geographical at their core. 

Geography develops data interpretation and spatial thinking, systems thinking (how economic, environmental and political factors interact), and informed decision-making about sustainability and global responsibility. 

Geography supports Westholme’s vision by: 

  • Preparing students to engage confidently with global issues 
  • Developing internationally minded young people 
  • Linking academic study to real-world relevance 

It reinforces the idea that education should help students understand and shape the world, not just observe it.
