Key Stage 3 – Politics, Economics and Psychology (PEP)

Politics

Political education reflects Westholme’s commitment to forming informed and responsible global citizens. Students will explore how the UK and local communities are governed, how justice and authority operate, and how individuals can contribute positively to their local and wider communities. These lessons encourage respectful dialogue, critical thought and moral responsibility, qualities central to our traditional civic values. With the law about to change to permit 16 year olds to vote, the aim is to prepare students for participation in British political culture.

Economics

Economics supports our tradition of preparing students to be responsible stewards of resources. Students will learn how economic systems function and how choices affect individuals, communities and societies. This reflects our belief in fairness, responsibility and the ethical use of resources. The subject will link to the entrepreneurial skills developed in our Prep School, the GCSE in Business Studies and the A Levels in Business and Economics.

Psychology

Psychology helps students understand human behaviour, learning and relationships. In line with our emphasis on empathy and self-awareness, this subject deepens students’ understanding of themselves and others, strengthening emotional intelligence and compassion, qualities essential for leadership and service.

The three PEP subjects become formal options at GCSE and/or A Level.

Our academic standards remain uncompromising and these new subjects enhance our curriculum map. They reflect Westholme’s belief that a truly excellent education balances knowledge with values, tradition with innovation, and academic success with personal growth.
