Kindness, friendship and wellbeing

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, our Prep pupils took part in a wonderful buddy activity designed to promote kindness and positive wellbeing across the school community.

The activity encouraged pupils to spend time recognising and celebrating the qualities they value in one another. Children paired up to draw portraits of their buddies before carefully choosing thoughtful sentences to describe them, writing their kind words onto postcards to take home. From “kind and caring” to “funny and supportive”, it was heartwarming to see pupils reflecting on the positive impact their friends have on them and sharing such encouraging messages.

Throughout the day, pupils also proudly wore green accessories to show their support for Mental Health Awareness Week and to help raise awareness of the importance of talking about mental health and wellbeing from an early age.

As part of the week’s activities, children also visited our sensory garden, taking time to explore the outdoors and discover the calming sights, sounds and textures nature can provide. The experience encouraged pupils to slow down, reflect and appreciate the benefits that outdoor spaces can have on emotional wellbeing.

The activity perfectly reflected the caring and supportive nature of our Prep community and linked closely to our wider wellbeing provision, which encourages every child to feel known, valued and supported.

Although simple, the day served as a powerful reminder that small acts of kindness and positive words can make a very big difference to someone’s day.
