Prep 2 Step Back in Time at Fireground Museum

Prep 2 enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Fireground Museum in Rochdale on Monday as part of their learning about the Great Fire of London.

During their visit, the children met James from the museum team, who was very impressed by their knowledge. Prep 2 confidently answered questions about the events of 1666 and demonstrated their understanding as they identified a range of historical artefacts linked to firefighting.

The pupils also had the exciting opportunity to explore historic fire engines and pumps, some dating back to the time of the Great Fire itself. Seeing these up close helped them gain a deeper understanding of what conditions were like in London during the devastating fire and how firefighting equipment has evolved over time.

In the afternoon, the children enjoyed exploring the museum’s interactive exhibits, where learning truly came to life. They dressed up in firefighter gear, took part in role-play activities and even climbed aboard a modern fire engine.

It was a wonderful day of hands-on learning, bringing their history topic vividly to life and creating plenty of stories for the children to share when they returned to school.
