Prep 3 Discover the Magic of Chemistry

This week, Prep 3 pupils stepped into the Senior Science laboratories for a fascinating Explore Together session that brought chemistry to life. The visit gave pupils the opportunity to experience the excitement of scientific discovery in a real lab setting – an opportunity rarely available to pupils of their age.

During the session, their teacher demonstrated how copper sulphate crystals are formed through chemical reactions. Using Bunsen burners, beakers, copper oxide and other laboratory equipment, pupils observed each stage of the process, discussing what was happening and predicting what might occur next. They learned about the role of heat in helping substances react and how new materials can be created through careful observation and control.

Although the pupils didn’t carry out the experiment themselves, they will soon get to see the finished copper sulphate crystals made during the demonstration – a rewarding reminder of the science they witnessed in action.

The session provided an inspiring insight into the world of chemistry, encouraging curiosity, questioning and excitement about learning. It was a memorable afternoon that gave Prep 3 pupils a true taste of what it means to think like scientists.
