Prep AJIS Swimming Competition Report

On Thursday we took a group of ten Prep Students, to Macclesfield Leisure Centre for the annual AJIS Swimming Competition. The team consisted of Eliza (Prep 6), Rahmeen (Prep 6), Harriet (Prep 6), Arabella (Prep 6) and Elizabeth (Prep 5) to feature in the girls events and George (Prep 6), Geo (Prep 6), Toby (Prep 6), Alfie (Prep 6) and Daniel  (Prep 5) to feature in the boys races.

The team raced well across the morning heats, battling hard for places in finals in the afternoon. They all put on a fantastic display of good racing skills and techniques under a lot of pressure against what was a very strong line up of other swimmers and schools and making a very impressive 12 out of  a total of 14 finals in the afternoon, with the boys qualifying for all 7 of their finals and the girls qualifying for 5 out of 7 finals.

The finals were strongly contested across all events, with George and Daniel picking up individual bronze medals in 100m Individual Medley and 50m Breaststroke respectively, with the boys Medley Relay Team (Toby, Daniel, George, Geo) picking up bronze medals too. Toby, swimming 50m Backstroke and the boys Freestyle Relay came an incredibly close fourth place, fighting hard for medals but just missing out and Arabella and Eliza finishing fifth in 50m Breaststroke and 100m Individual Medley.

Overall, the Girls finished seventh out of 11 schools and the boys finished third out of 9 schools. Combining the results of both, the team finished as the fourth best school with The Kings School Macclesfield, Cheadle Hulme and Bolton School finishing above us to make up the top three.

The most pleasing part of the day was being praised by the staff from the hosting school, The Kings School Macclesfield, for having the politest students, congratulating others on their successes and for being prompt to the call up area for races. We were told that if there was an award for the best supporting school, it would have been Westholme.

I am incredibly proud of the efforts of the students selected, displaying true Westholme spirit and representing the school to the highest standards. It was a pleasure to work with the all day and to see all the effort they have put in during lessons put into practice.
