Robots, Innovation and First Place Success

Westholme students recently participated in this year’s LEGO First League Competition, travelling to the University of Bradford to compete against a field of 19 schools.

Throughout the day, students took part in three robot matches, testing their design, programming and teamwork skills in a high-pressure environment. They also presented their Innovation Project to a panel of judges, confidently explaining the concept behind their robot and the decisions made during the design process.

Students’ hard work was rewarded in the Innovation category, where their project on Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) stood out and secured first place. This achievement demonstrated their ability to think creatively and develop sustainable solutions to complex energy challenges.

To conclude the competition, students completed their final robot run, showing clear progress and growing confidence as the day unfolded.

In addition to winning the Innovation Project, Westholme students also achieved 5th place overall in the robotics competition rankings out of 19 schools. Throughout the event, they demonstrated impressive technical skills, collaboration and professionalism.

The competition provided a fantastic opportunity for students to apply their learning in a real-world setting, develop problem-solving skills and work as a team. It was a rewarding and inspiring experience, and we look forward to welcoming new students who are interested in joining the team in the future
