Westholme Students Take to the West End Stage After National Win

This week, 30 Westholme students travelled to London for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity after winning a national Starlight Express competition. Selected from schools across the country, the group made the exciting journey to the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre, where they not only watched the Olivier Award-winning production but also stepped onto the stage themselves for a live performance.

Excitement built throughout the day as students arrived in London, soaking in the atmosphere of the West End and preparing for their own moment in the spotlight. For many, it was their first time visiting a major professional theatre, making the experience even more memorable.

Watching the high-energy performance of Starlight Express proved both inspiring and unforgettable. Students experienced the thrill, precision and professionalism of live theatre at its very best, gaining a deeper appreciation for the dedication and talent required to perform at such a high level.

Adding to the excitement, students also had the opportunity to meet Gavin Adams, who plays Rusty in the West End production. Gavin is already a familiar face to Westholme, having previously visited the school to deliver a workshop with students. Seeing him perform on stage and then meeting him backstage provided a full-circle moment, inspiring students and reinforcing the possibilities within the performing arts.

The highlight of the day came when Westholme students took to the stage themselves. Singing with confidence and enthusiasm, they delivered a performance that reflected the hard work and dedication shown throughout the competition process. For many, performing on a professional West End stage was a dream come true and an experience they will never forget.

The opportunity not only celebrated their national success but also showcased Westholme’s continued commitment to the performing arts.
