Year 11 and Sixth Form Enjoy Ice Skating Enrichment

On Wednesday afternoon, Year 11 and Sixth Form students enjoyed a memorable enrichment experience at Planet Ice in Blackburn, combining sport, skill development and social activity. The visit included 30 minutes of free skating, giving students the chance to practice independently, followed by a 30-minute coached lesson, where professional instructors helped improve technique, balance and confidence on the ice.

This experience forms part of our wider enrichment programme, designed to ensure all students have access to regular physical activity. The programme offers opportunities to participate in a broad range of sports, including football, hockey, netball and pickleball, both for social enjoyment and competitive play. Students also have access to our strength and conditioning gym, helping them develop fitness, coordination and confidence in their physical abilities.

Looking ahead, the programme includes visits to indoor climbing walls, golf driving ranges and padel centres, providing students with diverse opportunities to explore new sports and maintain lifelong physical activity. The aim is to encourage enjoyment of exercise, teamwork, perseverance and self-confidence, ensuring that students leave school with the knowledge, skills and motivation to remain active for life. The ice skating trip was an exciting start to the year’s enrichment activities, combining fun, fitness and friendship in equal measure.
