Sergeant Andy Hunt Inspires Students with Policing Insights

Westholme was honoured to welcome Sergeant Andy Hunt from Lancashire Police for an inspiring and thought-provoking visit in Criminology Club. Sergeant Hunt spoke to students across Years 7 to 13, sharing his experiences as a fourth-generation police officer and offering valuable insights into modern policing and even letting a student try on his riot gear!

Drawing on his extensive career, Sergeant Hunt spoke about some of the most memorable cases he has been involved in and discussed the evolving nature of policing in today’s society. He explored the challenges that come with public service, as well as the importance of community trust, teamwork and communication.

Students were particularly interested in hearing about the wide range of career opportunities within the police, from detective work and forensics to community policing and leadership roles. Sergeant Hunt also addressed current issues in policing that have been discussed in the media, helping students understand the complexities and responsibilities that come with the role.

After his lunchtime talk, Sergeant Hunt joined Sixth Form students for a 30-minute Q&A session. The conversation was lively and informative, covering topics such as ethical decision-making, work-life balance, and the personal qualities needed to serve with integrity.

The visit left students inspired by the idea of service, resilience and making a positive difference in their communities. We are very grateful to Sergeant Hunt for sharing his time, experience and wisdom with our Westholme community.
