Today, Westholme students travelled to Stonyhurst to compete in a prestigious invitational cross country event. With entries from boys and girls across the U9, U11, U13, U15 and U18 categories, our athletes demonstrated impressive determination, teamwork and competitive spirit throughout the day.
The event began brilliantly with our U9 girls securing a fantastic team victory. The group delivered a confident and consistent performance, with Jess finishing an excellent 3rd overall. The momentum continued with the U11 boys, who showed great resilience and teamwork to finish in second place in their category.
Another highlight came from our U13 boys, who claimed a superb team win against a strong field. Their success was strengthened by an outstanding run from Harry, who secured 3rd place on the podium with a powerful finish.
The final triumph of the day came from our U18 boys, who delivered an exceptional performance to win their team race. Competing within the U16 category, Will produced a superb run to finish first, while Charlie followed with a strong 3rd place finish.
Alongside the success at Stonyhurst, several of our athletes also represented Westholme in the English Schools North West Cross Country Championships at Sedbergh. Our U13 and U15 girls teams and U13 boys team had qualified after strong performances in the Lancashire round. Although the competition was incredibly tough at this higher level, the students demonstrated commendable effort and resilience, producing several excellent individual runs and gaining valuable experience against some of the best young runners in the region.
Across all events, our athletes displayed fantastic commitment and sportsmanship, making it a highly successful and rewarding week for Westholme cross country. Congratulations to everyone who took part.
