Westholme Sixth Form students had an outstanding day at the UKMT Senior Team Regional Final, held on Wednesday at the Lancaster University School of Mathematics. Representing the school with dedication and skill, the team comprised Lewys Davies, Will Hodgson, Alfie Baker, and William Cristoforo. The event brought together top teams from across the North West region to compete in a series of challenging mathematical problems designed to test logical thinking, creativity, and teamwork.
Throughout the competition, the Westholme team approached each round with focus and determination. The tasks included cross-number puzzles, fast-paced mathematical relays, and logic-based challenges, all of which required careful communication and collaborative problem-solving. Lewys, Will, Alfie, and William worked seamlessly together, supporting one another and combining their individual strengths to tackle complex problems efficiently.
The team’s thoughtful, methodical approach and ability to articulate their reasoning impressed both peers and organisers, reflecting the strong mathematical culture fostered at Westholme.
This experience provided an excellent opportunity for the students to develop their analytical skills, work as part of a team, and engage with challenging problems in a supportive and stimulating environment. The achievement highlights not only their talent in mathematics but also the collaboration, communication, and resilience that are central to success in any academic or professional setting.
Congratulations to Lewys, Will, Alfie, and William for their remarkable performance and for representing Westholme with distinction.
