Dr Jay Naisbitt welcomed by EPR A Level students

On Friday, Dr Jay Naisbitt was welcomed by EPR A Level students and members of Med Soc, when he came to speak with them during a lesson and a lunchtime session.

Through his discussion of medical ethics, Dr Naisbitt deepened students’ understanding of how ethical standards for medical practice can vary across the world, while clearly explaining the principles and professional guidance that shape clinical judgement in the UK.

He spoke in particular about the complex and sensitive issue of assisted dying, as well as the moral and emotional challenges he encounters in his role as a consultant working in an intensive care unit. These real-world examples brought ethical theory studied at A Level to life, prompting many insightful questions and encouraging students to think more critically about the subject.

Overall, the talks not only strengthened students’ academic understanding but also offered a valuable and realistic insight into the lived experiences and responsibilities of a doctor.
