Prep 5 Reach for the Stars

Prep 5 pupils have been exploring the wonders of space through a series of creative and informative projects, transforming their classroom into a miniature universe of planets, rockets, galaxies and scientific discoveries.

The pupils were delighted to welcome a very special guest to view their work – Professor Derek Ward-Thompson, Professor of Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Central Lancashire. His visit gave the children a unique opportunity to share their ideas with a real scientist working in the field of space research.

Professor Ward-Thompson spent time carefully inspecting each project, speaking with pupils about their research and asking thoughtful questions about the science behind their work. The children confidently explained their models, posters and presentations, demonstrating impressive knowledge about planets, space exploration and the wider universe.

The afternoon was equally exciting for the pupils, who took the opportunity to ask Professor Ward-Thompson questions of their own. They were curious to learn more about his work as an astrophysicist, how scientists study space and what discoveries might lie ahead in the future.

After much deliberation, Professor Ward-Thompson selected several pupils to receive special certificates in recognition of their particularly outstanding projects. The awards celebrated not only creativity and presentation but also the depth of understanding shown in their research.

The visit was a fantastic experience for Prep 5 and a wonderful way to bring their learning about space to life. Meeting a leading astrophysicist inspired many thoughtful questions and sparked even greater curiosity about the mysteries of the universe.
