Bearwood Hospital competition win

We are delighted to share that Arthur in Prep 3 has been named the winner of a recent “Name the Robot” competition, organised by Beardwood Hospital.

Arthur’s imaginative entry, R2Knee2, was selected as the winning name for the hospital’s new VELYS Robotic-Assisted Surgery System. His clever and playful idea stood out among entries, perfectly capturing the purpose of the robot while adding a touch of creativity and humour.

The competition was launched to celebrate the introduction of this advanced surgical technology, which supports surgeons in performing highly precise knee procedures. As part of his prize, Arthur was invited to visit the hospital for a behind-the-scenes experience, offering a unique glimpse into the world of modern medicine.

During his visit, Arthur met with Mr Dinesh Alexander and Mr Lee Hoggett, who took the time to explain how the robotic system works and the important role it plays in enhancing patient care. Arthur was fascinated to learn how technology is transforming surgery, improving accuracy and outcomes for patients.

A highlight of the visit was seeing R2Knee2 up close and having the opportunity to place his winning name on the robot itself, an unforgettable moment and a wonderful recognition of his achievement.

This experience reflects the value of connecting classroom learning with real-world opportunities. By engaging with professionals and exploring cutting-edge technology, pupils are encouraged to think creatively, ask questions and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.
