Celebrating the Class of 2026

On Wednesday, the Westholme community came together for a memorable and emotional Stand-Down Assembly as we celebrated our Year 13 students ahead of the start of their A Levels examinations.

Led by Mr Oracz and Mr Watson, the assembly was a fitting tribute to a year group described as “truly special”, students who have flourished into dynamic, mature role models during their time in the Sixth Form. Staff reflected on the many ways the Class of 2026 has embraced life at Westholme, not only through academic achievement, but through their character, leadership and friendships.

The assembly celebrated the breadth of talent across the year group, recognising students for sporting success, performing arts excellence, leadership and service to the school community. Staff praised Year 13 for embodying the school’s commitment to developing “21st Century Skills”, highlighting how the students had grown far beyond a “set of grades” into confident young people ready to make their mark on the world.

There were countless moments of laughter throughout the morning as staff shared stories from lessons, trips and Sixth Form life. From House Pool dominance and Duke of Edinburgh adventures to Physics jokes, Maths obsessions and unforgettable Common Room conversations, the assembly perfectly captured the personality of the year group. Particular mention was given to the Performing Arts students, whose “commitment to their craft” and willingness to “step into the limelight” has inspired younger pupils across the school.

The Student Executive Team were also recognised for the talent, energy and star quality they have brought to the Sixth Form, with special thanks given to the leadership shown throughout the year.

As the assembly concluded, staff reflected on how the Class of 2026 has consistently lived out the Westholme motto to “Work Hard and Be Kind.” Students were encouraged to “take Westholme with you and show the world your talent, your heart and how much of a difference you can make.”

Following the assembly, Year 13 students and their families gathered in the Croston Theatre for a special celebratory lunch, providing an opportunity to reflect on their journey through Westholme and celebrate the friendships, memories and achievements that have shaped their time in the Sixth Form.

The final applause of the morning was a powerful moment — a celebration not only of achievement, but of a year group that has left a lasting legacy on the Westholme community.
