Westholme proudly hosted its annual Sports Awards Evening at Blackburn Rovers Football Club, an occasion dedicated to celebrating the outstanding achievements, commitment and sporting spirit of our pupils over the past year.
Held in a truly special atmosphere, the evening began with a warm welcome as students, families and staff gathered for a drinks reception before taking their seats for dinner. The evening was officially opened by Principal, Mr P Taylor, who spoke passionately about the role of sport in building teamwork and character. In a moment that raised plenty of smiles, Mr Taylor also read out a light-hearted letter to the club, offering his apologies as a long-standing Burnley fan, made all the more entertaining given his Blackburn Rovers surroundings and being gifted a Blackburn Rovers shirt.
Throughout the evening, awards were presented across a wide range of sports, recognising both individual excellence and team success. From emerging talent to seasoned performers, each recipient embodied the dedication that define sport at Westholme.
A highlight of the evening was an inspiring talk from our guest speaker, Kofi Josephs, Great Britain basketball player. His journey offered a truly powerful insight into the realities of sport and the challenges life can present. Having broken his hip twice before reaching the professional game, his story of perseverance and resilience left a lasting impression on all in attendance, reinforcing the importance of ambition and self-belief.
The celebrations continued with further awards and a special sports video, showcasing memorable moments from the year; from fixtures and tournaments to training sessions and team successes.
The Sports Awards Evening is more than just a celebration of results; it is a recognition of effort, growth and the values developed through participation. We are incredibly proud of all our students and look forward to another exciting year of sport at Westholme.
