Step back in time with Prep 3

Our Prep 3 pupils enjoyed an unforgettable history experience with Professor Tuesday from Heritage Learning. From the very first moment, curiosity was sparked as pupils explored fascinating questions such as: What is it? What’s inside? How old could it be? This enquiry-led approach immediately engaged the children, encouraging them to think like historians and develop a deeper understanding of how we investigate the past.

The session was packed with hands-on activities designed to bring history to life. One of the highlights saw pupils working together to create a living, human timeline. Using actions and movement to represent different periods in history, the children were able to visualise the sequence of events in an interactive and memorable way, helping them understand where the Stone Age fits within the wider historical narrative.

Another exciting element of the session was the opportunity to handle genuine Stone Age artefacts. This tangible experience allowed pupils to connect with the past in a meaningful way, sparking thoughtful discussion and inspiring further questions about how people lived thousands of years ago. The room was filled with excitement as pupils carefully examined each object, considering its purpose and significance.

Collaboration was also at the heart of the session, as pupils worked together to construct a round burial chamber. This activity not only deepened their understanding of Stone Age practices but also encouraged teamwork, communication and problem-solving as they planned and built their structure.

Throughout the morning, pupils strengthened a range of key skills, including curiosity, questioning, investigation and sequencing. It was a fantastic example of immersive, experiential learning, where history is not just learned but truly experienced.
