U13 Boys Progress in Hockey National Cup Campaign 

Last week, Westholme’s U13 boys took to the pitch to face Birkenhead School in the first round of the Independent Schools Hockey National Cup. With experienced players leading the way and several boys representing the team for the very first time, the squad delivered an exciting end-to-end performance.

As the game unfolded, Westholme grew in confidence, executing their skills with increasing precision and creating a number of excellent goal-scoring opportunities. Their hard work and determination were rewarded with a well-deserved 5–2 victory. Most pleasing of all was the way the boys remained focused, responded positively to coaching advice, and supported one another with a fantastic “can do” attitude throughout.

The team were back in action on Monday against The King’s School, Chester, a side well known for its high standard of hockey. Undeterred by the challenge, our boys approached the fixture with determination and resilience, particularly impressive for those playing in only their second competitive match.

Westholme created several promising attacking moments but were unable to convert these into goals. Facing strong, quick and highly skilful opposition, King’s ran out 5–0 winners and were worthy of their victory. We wish them every success as they continue in the competition.

In such a short space of time, the progress shown by every member of the squad has been excellent. We are immensely proud of the positive, determined and supportive manner in which the boys represented Westholme, a brilliant foundation to build on for the rest of the season.
