Halfway Highlights from Folgaria: Westholme Takes to the Slopes

The Westholme Ski Trip to Folgaria is officially in full swing, and what a week it has been for our Year 9–13 adventurers!

After a smooth travel day on Sunday, the group arrived at around 5pm, fuelled up with dinner and sensibly opted for an early night, clearly aware of the ski stamina that would soon be required. By Monday morning, everyone was booted, helmeted and ready to hit the slopes.

Tuesday proved our biggest test yet, with all three ski groups powering through an impressive full day on the mountain from 9am until 5pm. Legs were tired, but spirits remained sky-high.

No Westholme trip would be complete without a mascot, and this year’s star is Bearnado, our fearless teddy who has been spotted carving down the slopes and supervising from various snowy vantage points.

Meanwhile, the legendary Wally Hat has already seen plenty of action, and a glow-up! After a loyal 10-year run, the traditional hat has evolved into this year’s rather fabulous iguana version. Freddie earned the first honour after misplacing his passport at the airport (a bold opening move), swiftly followed by Seb, who clearly decided one lost item in the group simply wasn’t enough… 👀

Day 3 brought peak drama on the slopes when Maya claimed the Wally crown in spectacular fashion, managing to wipe out not one but two Year 9 boys, and then accidentally taking out Eva in a determined (but unsuccessful) attempt to stop after the ski lift. Style points were, of course, deducted.

Evenings have been just as lively. Monday’s quiz night saw team “No Cookie” claim victory, while Games Night delivered plenty of laughs!

And just when we thought the week couldn’t get more exciting… Thursday has delivered a stunning 60cm of fresh snowfall. The teams braved the wintery blast for a strong morning ski before the afternoon session was sensibly called off due to conditions.

As we head into the second half of the trip, excitement is building for pizza night, ice skating and a visit into town before we return home on Sunday, with all passports accounted for!

Watch this space… Folgaria isn’t finished with us yet.
