Curious Crimes and Captivating Tales: A Morning with Reverend Richard Coles

Westholme was delighted to welcome Reverend Richard Coles for a memorable and engaging visit that brought learning vividly to life. Pupils gathered in Croston Theatre for a morning of storytelling, curiosity and laughter, as Reverend Coles shared insights from his latest book, A Heist Before Bedtime.

The session introduced pupils to some of history’s most unusual and entertaining true stories. From the remarkable tale of Albert Einstein’s brain being stolen, to the real-life million-dollar McDonald’s heist, and the mysterious case of the missing maple syrup, pupils were captivated from start to finish. Each story sparked intrigue and encouraged pupils to think more deeply about the world around them, blending history, mystery and humour in a way that was both accessible and thought-provoking.

Beyond the stories themselves, the visit provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to engage with a respected author and broadcaster, gaining insight into the craft of storytelling and the importance of curiosity. Pupils responded with enthusiasm, asking thoughtful questions and reflecting on the surprising truths behind each tale. The session not only entertained but also reinforced key skills such as critical thinking, listening and communication.
