A Special Visit from a Real-Life Police Officer for Prep R

Prep R enjoyed an exciting and memorable morning as they welcomed a very special visitor into their classroom-a real-life police officer. The children were instantly captivated, eager to learn more about the role of the police and how they help to keep communities safe.

The session began with the officer sharing insights into everyday policing, from responding to emergencies to supporting people in need. Prep R asked thoughtful questions, showing great curiosity about the equipment police officers use, how they stay safe, and what happens during different types of incidents. Their engagement and enthusiasm made for a lively and interactive discussion.

A key focus of the visit was safety, particularly how children can look after themselves when out and about. The officer spoke clearly and sensitively about road safety, explaining the importance of stopping, looking and listening before crossing, staying close to grown-ups, and being extra aware near busy roads. This message linked perfectly with National Road Safety Week, giving real context to what students have been exploring in class.

The children were fascinated to learn how the police work closely with schools and families to keep young people safe. They enjoyed hearing stories from the officer’s experience and were reassured to know that police officers are always there to help.

The visit ended with lots of smiles as Prep R shared what they had learned and reflected on how they can make safe choices every day. Teachers commented on how engaged the children were throughout, and how valuable it was for them to meet a trusted community figure in person.

This enriching experience not only strengthened the children’s understanding of safety but also helped them appreciate the important work police officers do. It was a wonderfully inspiring morning for Prep R and a highlight of their week.
