Members of the Prep Eco and Food Councils welcomed Lizzie Archer to Westholme for a working lunch focused on sustainability and reducing food waste.
Lizzie, Sustainability Project Manager at Thomas Franks, visited school to launch The Great Food Waste Challenge, an exciting new initiative designed to help pupils understand how small changes can make a big difference. During her presentation, Lizzie spoke to the children about practical ways we can all reduce the amount of food that goes to waste, both at school and at home.
Following the talk, councillors took part in a lively and thoughtful discussion, sharing their own ideas about how Westholme can become even more environmentally responsible. From smarter portion choices to creative reuse of leftovers, the pupils demonstrated fantastic awareness and enthusiasm for making positive change.
Mark from Thomas Franks and his catering team kindly provided a delicious lunch for the group, along with a selection of vegetable crisps made from beetroot, carrots and kale. A big hit with the children and a brilliant example of how surplus produce can be turned into something tasty and nutritious.
We are very much looking forward to working with Thomas Franks over the coming months on a range of fun and engaging initiatives as part of The Great Food Waste Challenge, helping our pupils take the lead in reducing food waste and protecting the environment.
