Hockey Success

The U13 hockey season has been one of outstanding progress, highlighting the commitment, development and teamwork shown by every player throughout the year. On Monday, the girls faced Silcoates School, Wakefield in the first round of the Sisters in Sport competition. Dominating the game from the outset, they produced a convincing performance to secure a well-deserved victory and progress to the next round.

Reaching the last 16 of the National Independent Competition was another fantastic achievement and a clear reflection of how far this team has come. On Wednesday, the next round took place against Sedbergh College with a place in the quarter-finals at stake. The girls delivered a highly competitive and entertaining performance, with Westholme enjoying large spells of possession and creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities, only to be denied by some excellent and determined defensive work from the opposition.

With the score finely balanced at 1–1 at half-time, the contest remained fiercely fought before eventually finishing 4–2 to Sedbergh College. Despite the result, the performance showcased resilience, belief and real quality, providing plenty to be proud of and a strong foundation to build on.

One parent quoted “The team spirit and camaraderie showed all afternoon, with the girls on and off the field supporting and encouraging each other. For a team that have only played together for what is essentially two terms, to play so well against a team that has been established with each other since their prep years, is very encouraging and something we as parents should be very proud of.”
