Westholme Sixth Form Students Excel in UKMT Senior Maths Challenge 

This week, a number of our talented Sixth Form students demonstrated exceptional mathematical skill and determination as they took part in the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Senior Maths Challenge — a national competition that celebrates problem-solving, logical reasoning and creative thinking. 

The annual challenge provides an exciting opportunity for students to apply their mathematical understanding beyond the classroom. The thought-provoking questions are designed to stretch even the most able mathematicians, encouraging them to think strategically and approach problems from new perspectives. 

Our students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, showcasing not only their technical ability but also their perseverance and teamwork. The competition encourages precision and reasoning rather than rote learning, helping participants to develop a deeper appreciation of mathematics and its real-world applications. 

Mathematics Teacher, Mrs Bateman, commented: 

“The Senior Maths Challenge offers a brilliant platform for our students to extend their learning and challenge themselves intellectually. We are incredibly proud of how they prepared for and engaged with this competition.” 

Participation in the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge is a fantastic achievement, as it attracts thousands of entries from schools across the UK each year. The results, which will be announced later this term, may see students awarded Bronze, Silver or Gold certificates in recognition of their performance.
