Last weekend, 48 Year 10s embarked on their Bronze DofE expedition with Miss Jackson and our wonderful new member of staff, Mrs Bradley. After arriving at Waddecar Scout Camp on Friday morning, students worked with their exceptional Sam Sykes instructors to set up their camp and prepare for the journey ahead!
Our DofE students explored various trails surrounding the Beacon Fell area, with most groups summiting two fells in one day; Parlick Fell (432m) and Fairsnape (522m), as well as a group navigating their way round Hazelhurst. The feedback we recieved from the instructors was wonderful, hearing how students had showed excellent skills with cooking, navigation and teamwork; some instructors were impressed to see a group cooking steak and roast potatoes on a tranja stove! Despite the rain on Saturday evening, students were resillient and all in good spirits. We hope to see a rise in DofE Silver applications, as each individual has the potential to develop to the next level.
